Wrexham have dominated League Two and are on the verge of promotion for the second time in a row, but Paul Mullin is dissatisfied with one aspect.
Despite their impressive performances at home, the Red Dragons have only won seven games away from home in 21 attempts. This has spurred Wrexham fans to chant about ‘never winning away from home’. Mullin has chastised the chants for lowering player morale, despite the fact that they appeared to be jest.
Speaking to the media, Mullin remarked [via @RobRyanRed on X]: “One thing I never want to hear them sing is that we never win away from home.” What do you believe that means for the players who are on the pitch representing their team? I understand it’s all about having a good time; they deserve it after paying their hard-earned money, but I believe some of the men have been talking about it, which we don’t like to hear.
After a 2-1 comeback win away to Colchester, due to goals from Mullin and Max Cleworth, the Red Dragons are now second in the league, four points behind Stockport County. With MK Dons two points behind them despite having played one more game, Wrexham appear to be on track for automatic promotion to League One next season, barring a late collapse.
The final four games of the season could be vital for Phil Parkinson’s club, and Mullin will aim to lead them to automatic promotion and possibly the League Two title. They will only play away once more this season, on April 20 against Crewe Alexandra.
