PHIL PARKINSON explained his decision to name an attack-minded substitutes bench for Saturday’s 3-1 win at Grimsby Town.

With two starting up front and two more lining up as replacements, the Reds’ manager has five strikers on his squad list that he has filed to the EFL. However, one of them has a tendency to miss out on matchdays.

Parkinson switched things up by starting three strikers on the bench, including Steven Fletcher, Jack Marriott, and Sam Dalby, instead of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer against the Mariners.

“We thought long and hard about the bench but Fletch, Dalby and Marriott offer different qualities,” he stated.

“Our intention was to remain flexible in selecting the strikers we deemed necessary based on the progress of the game.”

“To win on Friday against Mansfield, we’ll choose the strikers to start and the lineup we think is optimal.

Wrexham scored three goals in the first half, with Mullin scoring the game’s last goal and combining well with the industrious Palmer. Parkinson complimented the pair for their front-line defence.

Mulls has got his sharpness back and got that extra yard of pace’, he stated.

“He gave an excellent all-around effort, which he topped off with a strong finish.

“Those two really impressed me. Starting from the front, defence was a hard-working showing that was necessary because the game occasionally had a scrappy aspect to it because of the weather.

“In those games, you have got to make sure that you are prepared to do that side of the game first and foremost; we certainly did and we got the result.”
