Leading scorer Paul Mullin scored either side of the break, bringing his season tally to 20 goals and 99 for the club since joining from Cambridge United in the summer of 2021, to win a second consecutive victory.
Wrexham remain third in the table, level on points with Mansfield, who have slid to second. Both teams are just one point behind leaders Stockport County, who have a game in hand.
It’s a tight race at the top, with fourth-placed MK Dons three points behind the Reds despite having played one more match, while Barrow and Crewe Alexandra are also vying for a top-three finish.
Wrexham have six games remaining, and despite a significant win against the Stags, Parkinson is keeping his feet on the ground given the tough race for automatic promotion.
“We had to dig deep in terms of concentration levels as well as physicality, and it is a hard-earned victory,” said the Reds’ manager, whose team faces Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday evening.
“We didn’t get too depressed when we lost to Tranmere here; we assessed that in a very cool, calculating way, and we are not going to get too high after today.
“It’s another game down – six to go – and it’s definitely a victory over one of our rivals.
“But now it’s time to prepare for what promises to be an exciting game at Doncaster on Tuesday.
“We anticipated it would be a very competitive division from the outset.
“Mansfield, for example, has been in the division for a long time and has been preparing for a season like this.
“It’s competitive but we are enjoying it, the lads are relishing every single game and they take a lot of heart from today.”
