Matt Bloomfield wants Wycombe’s trip to Wembley to go down as a huge success at his anniversary celebration.

It has been precisely a year since the legendary Chairboys member succeeded his former boss, Gareth Ainsworth.

And Bloomfield would love to celebrate reaching the final at Valley Parade after playing 558 games for the Adams Park club.

This season, Bloomfield has already triumphed once in BD8, when Wycombe eliminated a managerless City from the FA Cup the weekend before Graham Alexander was named.

However, he is prepared for a challenging evening against a strong home team.

He told the Daily Mail, “We know they’ve been in really good form recently, so we’re expecting a really tough challenge.”

“They’re a really good team that understands their shape and style of play and is well-drilled. We are aware that winning this game will require our best effort.

“I want my boys to present the best possible image of themselves out there.”

Bloomfield spent almost two decades as a Wycombe midfield player, giving him a varied experience at Wembley.

In 2015, they lost to Southend in the League Two play-off final, and he missed a penalty in the shoot-out.

However, four years prior, Bloomfield made up for it by leading Wycombe to a 2-1 victory over Oxford in the League One championship game.

For the first time in 133 years, the club was promoted to the second division as a result.

In League One, Wycombe is presently in the middle of the pack. Their goalless draw with Oxford on Saturday marked their first clean sheet of 2024.

Since the beginning of the year, they have won five of their eleven games, including a thrilling 5-2 triumph over Peterborough.

In front of a mere 769 supporters at home, they defeated Brighton under-21s 4-1 to advance to the Trophy’s final four.
