After just seven months with the team, York City has decided to terminate the contract of striker Will Davies.

With Braintree Town of the Vanarama National League South having made a strong start to the season and won promotion, the 25-year-old forward signed a long-term contract with the Minstermen in November.

Davies scored eight goals in fifteen games for the Iron, but despite playing in twenty matches for City under Neal Ardley and Adam Hinshelwood, he only managed five goals in the twenty games.

That was in spite of the fact that the striker scored in the LNER Community Stadium match against Oxford City to mark his first start and win Man of the Match as the Minstermen secured a much-needed 2-0 victory.

In the rematch in January, he also scored, his injury-time goal stealing three points for Ardley’s team in the closing moments. His other goals came in matches against Gateshead, Maidenhead United, and Oldham Athletic.

Before moving to the sixth division, Davies also scored 53 goals in 124 games with Leiston. Towards the end of the season, he was on loan at Bromley, a Vanarama National League team.

He played six games for Andy Woodman’s team there as they won their first-ever promotion to the EFL.
